Healing Illinois

Stories in the Ring: Healing Through Boxing, Art, and Voice” is a youth- and community-centered initiative by Angels Boxing Academy that combines boxing, storytelling, and creative expression to promote racial and community healing in Lake County, Illinois. Through youth-led healing circles, digital storytelling, mural art, and community forums, the project will uplift underrepresented voices—particularly Black, Brown, and immigrant youth—and create platforms to share their lived experiences of exclusion, identity, resilience, and hope.

Participants will engage in monthly story-sharing sessions, reflection-based boxing classes, and creative projects that document and amplify their narratives. The program also includes intergenerational dialogue events, a community mural, and a short documentary to build awareness, strengthen relationships, and deepen public understanding of healing across differences.
